» Intro
This project appears in order to solve the problem of the storage and transportation of used domestic oils, as well as other types of waste. The most part of the citizens does not recycle the domestic oils due to the storage problem, because it takes a while to join a large amount of it. Also, there is only a few points that collect it to recycle, what makes most of the people throw this type of waste into the garbage along with the other domestic waste, or in the sink. But, why is it so important to recycle this type of waste? Well, the oil is one of the worst water pollutants, with several damages on the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. This way, the collect of this type of waste should be more pronounced, in order to make people more conscious of this problem, and to avoid the continuous harm that's been made to the environment, mostly unconsciously.
» Summary
There is a great potential in the recycling of waste and consequent environmental protection. The re-use of recyclable materials has proved that it is a viable investment with benefits to the investors and to the environment. The domestic oil is one of those products. Due to its high potential for production of biodiesel, its collection should be improved in order to promote a better environment. There are several companies, associations and even partnerships to make the collection of domestic oils. The greatest difficulty lies in the collection of that oil in households because the quantity produced is reduced, what makes its collection impracticable to the specialized companies. Also the recycling by consumers is not feasible. Not only because there are no places where people can deliver this waste and also because it would require that consumers should obtain a suitable container to store in their homes a quantity that justifies the delivery of waste in a point of recycling.
The solution that is proposed in this project involves the use of an intelligent container, allowing an optimized collection of such waste. The container must act independently, sending an alert to the company indicating that the container is ready to be collected. This ensures that when the employee of the company is going to collect a container, in a given address, he/she knows that will certainly collect the container full, or at least almost full. The software developed for the central management receives information from these containers to allow efficient management and planning of optimal routes for collection, which leads to a reduction in costs, primarily because less travels will be needed for collecting even more oil.
This architecture allows automatically the central management software to track the containers and create the collection routes, with automatic viewing of that container on the map. This software also allows us to make the management of staff and vehicles from the collector. The software provides an innovative and accessible interface, taking advantage of the latest technologies from Microsoft.
The system also provides statistics that allow seeing the evolution of collection by location and by district.
This kind of information allows the company to see where are the higher and lower points of collecting, so we can change the size of the container, to one of greater capacity. The system is also composed by an application designed to help the collection, which provides a clean collection system. The existing container is replaced by a new container, updating the information in the system. With this, the collection is cleaner and more effective.
The application route can be integrated with a navigation application. This solution is scalable, can be used in large capacity containers, such as those used in restaurants, or even in small and medium capacity, for the home user. This methodology can be applied to collection of other types of waste.
